- Yosemite Mutual Aid Search
Numerous California Mountain Rescue teams and allied
SAR Units responded on a Type 1 Alpine SAR team request
for Ron Hoggard, the 58 y.o. City Manager of Corcoran, California.
Hoggard had been missing for two days after he did not return
from a day hike Friday afternoon. Teams were assigned
a large area search segments between Glacier Point Road and
the south rim of the Yosemite Valley. Terrain was technical
in many area and heavily forested in others. Late into Sundays
search operation, a Mono County MRA team located a shelter
and tracks that likely belonged to Hoggard. Also during
this operational period, YOSAR had to re-task resources to
a technical rescue on the nose of El Capitan for an injured
Spanish Climber. A Marin MRA teams assisted with the
talas field evacuation after the patient was lowered off
the nose
of El Cap.
On day two MRA teams from Ventura, Sierra Madre, Mono, China
Lake, Malibu and Marin deployed to search segments around were
Mono County found the clue the evening before. About 0830,
a Marin team located Hoggard near the Fissures on the Valley
rim, about 1 mile from were Mono County located the Shelter
and tracks. Hoggard was dehydrated, fatigued and hungry, but
otherwise in good shape considering he slept out three nights
with temps in the low 30's each night.
